Judges 19

Judges 19

A Levite from the hill country of Ephraim travels to Bethlehem to retrieve his concubine who had run away. On the journey home, he stops for the night in the Benjamite city of Gibeah. Wicked men of the town surround the house and demand the Levite be brought out for sexual violence. The Levite instead forces his concubine outside. The men abuse her all night, and she dies on the doorstep. The Levite places her body on his donkey and, upon reaching home, cuts her body into twelve pieces and sends them to all the tribes of Israel as a horrific call to war.
