Judges 1

Judges 1

The book begins after Joshua’s death with the tribes of Judah and Simeon taking the lead to finish conquering their territories, defeating the Canaanites and Perizzites. They capture King Adoni-Bezek, who acknowledges God's justice. However, the rest of the chapter records a series of failures by the other tribes (Manasseh, Ephraim, Zebulun, Asher, Naphtali, and Dan) to completely drive out the Canaanite inhabitants from their allotted lands. Instead, they compromised and settled alongside them, setting the stage for future disobedience and oppression.
