The other eleven tribes solemnly vow not to give any of their daughters in marriage to the surviving 600 men of Benjamin, regretting their near-extinction of a tribe. To save Benjamin from dying out, they discover that the people of Jabesh-Gilead did not send any men to the initial assembly. The Israelites slaughter the inhabitants of Jabesh-Gilead, taking four hundred virgins and giving them as wives to the Benjamites. They then devise a further plan, instructing the remaining Benjamites to kidnap the young women dancing at the annual festival in Shiloh, concluding the chaotic era with profound moral compromises.
