Judges 2

Judges 2

An Angel of the Lord appears at Bokim (meaning "weepers") and rebukes the Israelites for breaking their covenant promise by failing to destroy the Canaanite altars and intermarrying with the local peoples. The people weep and offer sacrifice, but their repentance is short-lived. The Angel declares that God will no longer drive out the remaining nations, but they will remain as "thorns in their sides" to test Israel's loyalty. This chapter introduces the cyclical pattern of the book: Sin, Servitude (Oppression), Supplication (Crying out), and Salvation (Deliverance by a Judge).
