Judges 6

Judges 6

After forty years of peace, Israel sins again, and God delivers them into the hands of the Midianites for seven years. The Midianites constantly raided Israel’s land, forcing the Israelites to hide in caves and mountain strongholds, leaving them impoverished. An Angel of the Lord appears to Gideon, a timid man hiding and threshing wheat in a winepress, and calls him a "mighty warrior." Gideon asks for a sign, and the Angel consumes his offering with fire. Gideon then secretly tears down his father’s altar to Baal, prompting the local men to try and kill him.
