Leviticus 1

Leviticus 1

This chapter details the law for the Burnt Offering, which is a voluntary sacrifice meant to make atonement for the worshiper and completely dedicate him to God. The offering must be a male animal without defect (cattle, sheep, goat, or bird). The worshiper brings the animal, lays his hand on its head (transferring guilt), and kills it. The priests then sprinkle the blood and burn the entire animal on the altar. The whole offering turning to smoke symbolizes the complete surrender and acceptance by God.
