Leviticus 25

Leviticus 25

This chapter establishes two critical social and economic laws tied to the number seven: the Sabbatical Year and the Year of Jubilee. The Sabbatical Year commands the land to rest every seventh year—it must not be planted or harvested, teaching reliance on God. The Year of Jubilee occurs every fiftieth year, where all ancestral lands sold due to poverty must be returned to the original family, and all indentured servants must be freed. This radical law prevented permanent poverty and maintained tribal family ownership of the Promised Land.
