In response, Jesus tells three famous parables illustrating God's intense, searching love for the lost. He tells the Parable of the Lost Sheep and the Parable of the Lost Coin, showing God’s immense joy when one lost soul is found. The chapter culminates with the Parable of the Prodigal Son, which powerfully depicts God’s welcoming love for the repentant sinner and the older brother's self-righteousness.
