Luke 1

Luke 1

Luke begins with a formal introduction to Theophilus, explaining his careful research. The angel Gabriel appears to the priest Zechariah, announcing that his barren wife, Elizabeth, will bear a son named John (the Baptist). Gabriel then visits the virgin Mary in Nazareth, announcing she will conceive the Son of God through the Holy Spirit. Mary visits Elizabeth, who prophetically greets her. The chapter concludes with Zechariah’s prophecy after John’s birth.
