Luke 2

Luke 2

The Roman Emperor Augustus orders a census, requiring Joseph and Mary to travel to Bethlehem (the city of David). Jesus is born there and laid in a manger. Angels appear to shepherds in the field, proclaiming the birth of the Savior, Christ the Lord. After eight days, Jesus is circumcised. Forty days later, His parents dedicate Him at the temple, where the prophet Simeon and the prophetess Anna recognize Him as the Messiah. The chapter concludes with 12-year-old Jesus astonishing teachers in the temple.
