Malachi 3

Malachi 3

Malachi announces the sudden arrival of the Lord's messenger (John the Baptist) to prepare the way, followed by the Lord Himself, who will come to purify the priests and judge the wicked. The Lord challenges Israel to test Him by faithfully bringing their full tithes and offerings to the temple storehouse. God promises that if they do so, He will open the floodgates of heaven and pour out such a blessing that they will not have room enough to receive it.

Hosea 1

God commands Hosea to marry a promiscuous wife, Gomer, to symbolize Israel's spiritual adultery (unfaithfulness) against God. Their children are given symbolic names representing God's judgment.

Hosea 2

God uses the analogy of marriage to condemn Israel's pursuit of idols. God promises to strip Gomer bare but will eventually woo her back in the wilderness, restoring her and making an everlasting covenant of peace.
