Herod secretly tries to trick the Magi into revealing Jesus's location. God warns the Magi in a dream to avoid Herod. An angel warns Joseph, who immediately takes his family and flees to Egypt to escape Herod's furious order to murder all male children in Bethlehem under two years old. After Herod's death, Joseph is directed to settle the family in Nazareth in Galilee.
