Numbers 25

Numbers 25

The Israelites commit grievous sin while camped in the plains of Moab. They are drawn into the worship of the Moabite god, Baal of Peor, through intermarriage and sexual immorality with the Moabite women. God is furious and sends a deadly plague upon the people. Phinehas, Aaron's grandson, takes decisive action by violently killing an Israelite man and a Midianite woman who defiantly brought their sin into the camp. God halts the plague and rewards Phinehas with an everlasting covenant of priesthood for his zealous act of righteous judgment.
