Numbers 30

Numbers 30

This chapter establishes the important law of vows and oaths. God declares that a man's vow is binding and must be kept. However, rules are provided for vows made by women: a father or a husband has the authority to nullify a daughter's or wife's vow if he hears it and speaks against it immediately. If the father or husband hears the vow and remains silent, the vow becomes binding. This law protects both the sanctity of the vow and the structure of family authority.
