Numbers 36

Numbers 36

The daughters of Zelophehad case is revisited by the tribal leaders of Manasseh, who express concern that if the daughters marry into another tribe, the family inheritance will be lost to that other tribe. God rules that the daughters may keep their land, but they must marry only within their own tribe (the clan of Manasseh) to keep the ancestral land within the proper tribal boundaries. This final law ensures that the inheritance rights established in Chapter 27 do not compromise the ordered tribal division of the Promised Land.

Hosea 1

God commands Hosea to marry a promiscuous wife, Gomer, to symbolize Israel's spiritual adultery (unfaithfulness) against God. Their children are given symbolic names representing God's judgment.

Hosea 2

God uses the analogy of marriage to condemn Israel's pursuit of idols. God promises to strip Gomer bare but will eventually woo her back in the wilderness, restoring her and making an everlasting covenant of peace.
