Proverbs 13

Proverbs 13

This chapter emphasizes the importance of speech, diligence, and parental instruction. A wise son heeds his father's instruction, but a scoffer does not listen to rebuke. Careful speech preserves life, but reckless talking leads to ruin. The soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing, while the soul of the diligent is richly supplied. Crucially, the chapter highlights that sparing the rod hates the child, but whoever loves his son is diligent to discipline him, stressing the need for parental correction.
