Proverbs 9

Proverbs 9

The contrast between the two paths is finalized through two symbolic feasts. Wisdom builds her house with seven pillars, sends out servants, and prepares a luxurious banquet, inviting the simple and foolish to turn from their ways and live. Immediately after, Folly is introduced as a loud, ignorant woman who sits at the door of her house. She also invites the simple and foolish to steal water and eat forbidden bread. The chapter concludes by warning that those who accept Folly’s invitation do not know that her guests are already in the depths of the grave.
