Psalms 109

Psalms 109

An intense imprecatory psalm where the Psalmist, persecuted by deceitful, malicious enemies, prays for God to bring severe judgment upon them. The Psalmist asks for his enemies' days to be few, their office to be taken by another (a prophecy later applied to Judas), and their children to become wandering beggars. The Psalmist pleads for God to act, confessing his own poverty and affliction. He concludes with a confident promise that he will greatly praise the Lord with his mouth because God stands at the right hand of the poor to save them.
