Psalms 114

Psalms 114

A powerful, short hymn celebrating the Exodus and God’s mighty power over nature. When Israel came out of Egypt, the sea saw it and fled, and the Jordan River turned back. The mountains skipped like rams, and the little hills like lambs at the presence of the God of Jacob. The Psalmist asks the rhetorical question, "What ails you, O sea, that you fled?" The Psalm concludes by recalling how God turned the rock into a pool of water, proving the earth must tremble at the presence of the Lord.
