Psalms 117

The shortest Psalm in the Bible, a fervent call to universal praise. All nations and all peoples are commanded to praise the Lord. The reason is simple and powerful: God's merciful kindness is great toward us, and the truth of the Lord endures forever. The Psalm is a concise, powerful declaration that the entire globe has a duty to praise God because of His unfailing covenant love and faithfulness to His promises.

The Babylonian King Nebuchadnezzar invades Judah. King Jehoiakim is exiled, and the prophet Jeremiah warns of impending doom. The Babylonians remove much of the Temple treasure and take the first wave of captives.
