Psalms 129

Psalms 129

A song of remembrance and prayer against Israel's constant oppressors. The people declare that Israel has been afflicted many times from its youth, but their enemies have never completely prevailed over them. The Psalmist recalls the fierce oppression, comparing it to the plowing of the back by the wicked. The Psalmist prays for the confusion and shame of all those who hate Zion. He asks that they be like grass on the rooftops that withers before it can be pulled up or harvested.
