Psalms 22

Psalms 22

A profound Messianic lament, beginning with the agonizing cry that Jesus spoke on the cross: "My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?" David describes the torment of rejection and the feeling that God is absent. He details his physical distress—his bones are out of joint, his heart is like wax, and his throat is dry. He is surrounded by wicked men who have pierced his hands and feet and divided his garments. The Psalm shifts to a glorious conclusion: the Messiah will proclaim God's name, and all the families of the nations shall worship the Lord, and His kingdom will rule over all.
