Psalms 29

Psalms 29

A brief but magnificent hymn praising God's power displayed through a thunderstorm. The Psalm commands the heavenly beings (sons of the mighty) to ascribe glory and strength to the Lord. The "voice of the Lord" (thunder) is described using seven powerful phrases: it is over the waters, breaks the cedars of Lebanon, flashes fire, shakes the wilderness, and strips the forest bare. The Lord sits enthroned over the flood and reigns as King forever. The Psalm concludes by promising that the Lord will give strength and peace to His people.
