Psalms 39

Psalms 39

A deeply reflective lament on the brevity of life. David resolves to keep silent to avoid sinning with his tongue, but the anguish eventually bursts forth in prayer. David asks God to let him know his end, declaring, "Indeed, every man at his best state is but vanity." David recognizes that all human effort and wealth accumulation are ultimately pointless because he does not know who will gather the riches after he dies. David prays for God to remove His stroke and concludes by pleading for God to look away and let him recover before he dies and is no more.
