Psalms 40

Psalms 40

A hymn of praise for deliverance, contrasted with a renewed plea for help. David praises God for having patiently waited for the Lord, who lifted him out of a horrible pit and set his feet upon a rock. David declares that God desires not sacrifice and offering, but an open ear and obedience. He resolves to declare God's righteousness and salvation in the great congregation. David concludes by recognizing his present poverty and need, crying out, "You are my help and my deliverer; do not delay, O my God."
