Psalms 41

Psalms 41

A wisdom Psalm emphasizing the blessing that comes from caring for the poor and sick. David pronounces, "Blessed is he who considers the poor; the Lord will deliver him in time of trouble." David is currently ill and betrayed by his closest friends, who wish for his death. He is heartbroken that his own familiar friend, who ate bread with him, has lifted up his heel against him (a prophecy fulfilled by Judas). David prays for God's mercy to be restored so he can pay back his enemies. The Psalm concludes with a great doxology, praising the Lord God of Israel forever.
