Psalms 57

Psalms 57

A prayer of refuge and desperate trust, written by David when he fled from Saul in a cave. David flees to God, declaring, "In the shadow of your wings I will take refuge, till the storms of destruction pass by." David describes himself as surrounded by enemies whose words are swords and arrows. Despite the danger, David resolves to rise early and awaken the dawn with his praise. He concludes with a magnificent refrain that promises ultimate victory: "Be exalted, O God, above the heavens! Let your glory be over all the earth!"
