Psalms 82

Psalms 82

A powerful challenge to the divine council and the earthly judges who act unjustly. God takes His stand in the "congregation of the mighty" and judges the unjust rulers, asking them, "How long will you judge unjustly and show partiality to the wicked?" God commands them to defend the poor, the fatherless, and the afflicted. God declares that these judges will die like mere mortals, though they are called "gods" (rulers). The Psalmist concludes with a plea: "Arise, O God, judge the earth, for You shall inherit all nations."
