Psalms 88

Psalms 88

The darkest and most agonizing of all the Psalms, a pure lament with no resolution. The Psalmist is afflicted from his youth, feeling God's wrath and despairing of life. He cries out day and night, feeling God has cast him into the lowest pit and removed his closest friends, making him an abomination to them. The Psalmist asks God why He performs wonders for the dead. The Psalm concludes with the agonizing line: "Lover and friend you have put far from me, and my acquaintances into darkness."
