Psalms 89

Psalms 89

A song of praise to God's covenant faithfulness, followed by a wrenching lament over the apparent failure of that covenant. The Psalmist celebrates God's power in the heavens. God reminds the people of His covenant with David: He will establish David's throne forever, and His loving-kindness will never depart from him. The Psalm then shifts dramatically, lamenting that God has apparently rejected David's king, allowing him to be shamed and defeated in battle. The Psalmist asks, "Lord, where are Your former loyalties?"
