Psalms 97

An enthronement hymn celebrating the awe-inspiring, majestic reign of the Lord. The Psalm proclaims, "The Lord reigns; let the earth rejoice." Clouds and darkness surround Him, and fire goes before Him. When the Lord appears, the mountains melt like wax at His presence. The idols and their worshippers are put to shame. The Psalm urges the righteous to rejoice in the Lord and give thanks at the remembrance of His holy name. The Lord preserves the souls of His saints and delivers them from the hand of the wicked.
