Ruth 3

Ruth 3

Naomi instructs Ruth on how to secure Boaz’s protection and proposal. Following a custom of seeking a commitment, Ruth washes, anoints herself, dresses in her best clothes, and goes secretly to the threshing floor where Boaz is sleeping after working. She lies down at his feet. When Boaz wakes up startled, Ruth asks him to spread the corner of his cloak over her, requesting him to act as her kinsman-redeemer. Boaz honors her virtuous request but reveals there is a closer relative who has the first right to redeem the land and marry Ruth.
