Ruth 4

Ruth 4

Boaz acts decisively and goes to the town gate, where legal matters are settled. He confronts the closer kinsman in front of the elders of the city. Boaz offers the man the opportunity to redeem Elimelech’s land, but he must also agree to marry Ruth the Moabitess to raise up an heir for the dead man. The closer relative refuses, transferring the right to Boaz by taking off his sandal. Boaz publicly redeems the land and marries Ruth. They have a son named Obed, who becomes the grandfather of King David, establishing Ruth's place in the lineage of the Messiah.
