God promises that He will build Israel up again and establish a New Covenant that is written on their hearts, guaranteeing forgiveness of their sins and eternal fellowship.

While imprisoned, Jeremiah performs a symbolic act by buying a field in Judah, demonstrating his certain faith in God's future promise to restore the land.

God promises that a righteous Branch will spring forth from David, who will execute justice and righteousness on earth, establishing an enduring priesthood and eternal covenant.

Jeremiah warns King Zedekiah that he will be taken captive by the Babylonians and that the city will be burned. He condemns the leaders for breaking a covenant to free their slaves.

Jeremiah uses the obedient example of the Rechabites, who faithfully kept their ancestor's command to not drink wine, to condemn Judah's constant disobedience to God's law.

Jeremiah writes all his prophecies on a scroll. King Jehoiakim listens to the scroll being read and defiantly cuts and burns it. Jeremiah dictates a new, expanded scroll.

Jeremiah is imprisoned for treason during the final siege of Jerusalem. He warns King Zedekiah that the Babylonian army will return and burn the city with fire.

The nobles throw Jeremiah into a muddy cistern to die. He is rescued by the Ethiopian eunuch, Ebed-Melech. King Zedekiah secretly seeks counsel from Jeremiah.

Jerusalem is captured by the Babylonians. King Zedekiah is captured and blinded. Jeremiah is protected and released from prison by the commander, Nebuzaradan.

The Babylonian general releases Jeremiah and allows him to live freely among the remnant left in Judah. Gedaliah is appointed as governor over the remaining people.

Ishmael assassinates Governor Gedaliah and several others. The remaining people flee toward Egypt, fearing Babylonian retribution for the murders.

The people ask Jeremiah to pray for guidance before fleeing to Egypt. Jeremiah prophesies that if they stay in the land, they will be blessed, but if they go to Egypt, they will die by the sword.
