King Nebuchadnezzar erects a massive gold image and forces everyone to worship it. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refuse and are thrown into a fiery furnace, where God miraculously saves them.
King Nebuchadnezzar recounts his dream of a towering tree that is cut down. Daniel interprets the dream, warning the King that he will be driven insane, eat grass like an ox, and lose his mind until he acknowledges God's supremacy.
King Belshazzar holds a drunken feast and uses the sacred vessels stolen from the Jerusalem Temple. A mysterious hand writes on the wall: "Mene, Mene, Tekel, Parsin." Daniel interprets the writing, announcing the king's imminent death.
Jealous rivals trick King Darius into signing a decree forbidding prayer to any god but the king. Daniel continues to pray three times a day and is thrown into a lion's den, where God miraculously closes the lions' mouths.
Daniel sees a terrifying vision of four great beasts rising from the sea (representing four empires). The fourth beast has ten horns, followed by a little horn who speaks against God. The vision culminates with the Son of Man receiving eternal dominion.
Daniel sees a vision of a ram and a goat fighting. The goat (Greece) defeats the ram (Medo-Persia). The goat's horn is broken, and a small horn rises, growing powerful and defiling the Temple sanctuary.
Daniel is praying and confessing the nation's sins when the angel Gabriel appears, giving him the prophecy of the Seventy Weeks (sevens), detailing the period leading up to the Messiah's death and the final destruction of Jerusalem.
Daniel is deeply distressed by a vision of a future war. An angel appears to him, explaining that he was delayed by the Prince of the Kingdom of Persia (a demonic principality), revealing the spiritual warfare behind earthly conflicts.
An angel details a long, complex prophecy involving the kings of the North and South (Seleucids and Ptolemies), accurately predicting the conflicts and invasions that would follow the death of Alexander the Great.
Daniel is told that in the time of the end, Michael, the great prince, will stand up. There will be a time of trouble, followed by the resurrection of the dead, with some rising to everlasting life and others to shame.
God commands Hosea to marry a promiscuous wife, Gomer, to symbolize Israel's spiritual adultery (unfaithfulness) against God. Their children are given symbolic names representing God's judgment.
God uses the analogy of marriage to condemn Israel's pursuit of idols. God promises to strip Gomer bare but will eventually woo her back in the wilderness, restoring her and making an everlasting covenant of peace.
