Paul urges Timothy to entrust the gospel to reliable people. He uses analogies of the disciplined soldier, the obedient athlete, and the working farmer.

Paul warns that in the last days, people will be lovers of self and pleasure. He confirms that all Scripture is God-breathed and useful for training in righteousness.
