Psalms
The Book of Psalms is the primary worship book of the Bible, a collection of 150 sacred songs, prayers, and poems written by various authors, primarily King David. These songs express the full range of human emotion: joy, praise, gratitude, sorrow, anger, doubt, and hope. The Psalms are traditionally grouped into five books, covering different types of worship: psalms of praise, laments, royal psalms, wisdom psalms, and historical psalms. They served as the ancient Jewish hymn book and continue to be a central resource for worship, meditation, and spiritual guidance for both Jews and Christians, teaching believers how to communicate openly and honestly with God in every circumstance of life.
A prayer for national revival and restoration. The psalm asks God to restore His fierce anger and bring righteousness and peace back to the land.
David seeks God's mercy and guidance. He praises God as good and forgiving and asks to be delivered from the arrogant men seeking his life.
A celebration of Zion. The psalm declares that all nations will find their true spiritual birthplace in the City of God, the joyful Mother of all.
The darkest psalm, filled with unrelieved suffering. The writer laments being near death and feeling forgotten by God, with no hope offered.
