Psalms
The Book of Psalms is the primary worship book of the Bible, a collection of 150 sacred songs, prayers, and poems written by various authors, primarily King David. These songs express the full range of human emotion: joy, praise, gratitude, sorrow, anger, doubt, and hope. The Psalms are traditionally grouped into five books, covering different types of worship: psalms of praise, laments, royal psalms, wisdom psalms, and historical psalms. They served as the ancient Jewish hymn book and continue to be a central resource for worship, meditation, and spiritual guidance for both Jews and Christians, teaching believers how to communicate openly and honestly with God in every circumstance of life.
A celebration of God's enthronement. The psalm describes God reigning in majesty and fire, with His presence bringing light, joy, and judgment to all the earth.
A song celebrating God's salvation. The psalm proclaims that God has remembered His covenant faithfulness and will bring salvation to the sight of all nations.
A hymn celebrating the holiness of God. The psalm urges people to worship the holy Lord, who justly answered the prayers of Moses, Aaron, and Samuel.
A short, famous call to corporate worship: "Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth!" The psalm celebrates God's goodness, love, and faithfulness.
