Psalms
The Book of Psalms is the primary worship book of the Bible, a collection of 150 sacred songs, prayers, and poems written by various authors, primarily King David. These songs express the full range of human emotion: joy, praise, gratitude, sorrow, anger, doubt, and hope. The Psalms are traditionally grouped into five books, covering different types of worship: psalms of praise, laments, royal psalms, wisdom psalms, and historical psalms. They served as the ancient Jewish hymn book and continue to be a central resource for worship, meditation, and spiritual guidance for both Jews and Christians, teaching believers how to communicate openly and honestly with God in every circumstance of life.
David prays for God to guard his mouth and heart. He asks God to keep him from joining the wicked and to listen to his evening sacrifice.
David's prayer while hiding in the cave. He cries to God in loneliness, declaring God is his refuge and inheritance in the land of the living.
David's final lament. He asks God to answer quickly before he dies, and he prays for God to lead him on the right path by His good Spirit.
David praises God, his rock and warrior, who trains him for battle. He prays for prosperity, protection from enemies, and happy citizens.
