2 Chronicles 27

2 Chronicles 27

Jotham, Uzziah’s son, reigns righteously, following the example of his father (but wisely not entering the Temple to burn incense). He fortifies Jerusalem and builds many cities in the hill country. Jotham wages a successful war against the Ammonites, forcing them to pay a heavy tribute of silver, wheat, and barley for three years. Jotham is successful because he orders his ways before the Lord. The chapter concludes with the note that Jotham’s wicked son, Ahaz, succeeds him, ending the period of great prosperity.
