2 Chronicles 36

2 Chronicles 36

This chapter concludes the history of the kings of Judah, focusing on the rapid succession of the last four wicked kings: Jehoahaz, Jehoiakim, Jehoiachin, and Zedekiah. The kings and the people continue to mock God’s prophets. God allows Nebuchadnezzar, King of Babylon, to invade, plunder the Temple treasures, and destroy Jerusalem. The people are taken captive and exiled to Babylon for seventy years to fulfill the word of the Lord. The book concludes with the decree of Cyrus, King of Persia, allowing the Jewish exiles to return and rebuild the Temple.
