Daniel 9

Daniel 9

In the first year of Darius, Daniel studies the prophecies of Jeremiah and realizes that the desolation of Jerusalem is nearing its end after seventy years. Daniel offers a profound prayer of confession and intercession on behalf of his people, acknowledging Israel's sin and God's righteousness in their punishment. While praying, the angel Gabriel appears and gives him the critical prophecy of the Seventy Weeks (490 years). This prophecy outlines the time until the Messiah comes, is cut off, and the sanctuary is destroyed.
