Jeremiah 20

Jeremiah 20

This chapter details Jeremiah’s first persecution and imprisonment. Pashhur, the chief officer of the Temple, strikes Jeremiah and puts him in the stocks for preaching doom. God commands Jeremiah to rename Pashhur "Magor-Missabib" (Terror on Every Side), prophesying that Pashhur and his house will go into captivity in Babylon. Jeremiah then pours out a bitter lament, wishing he had never been born, but concludes with the declaration that God is with him like a mighty, terrible one, and he will praise God for deliverance.
