Jeremiah 28
The prophet Hananiah publicly challenges Jeremiah, symbolically breaking the wooden yoke from Jeremiah’s neck. Hananiah prophesies that within two years, God will break the yoke of the King of Babylon and restore all the Temple vessels and exiles. Jeremiah warns that a true prophet speaks peace only when it actually comes to pass. God then sends a message back to Hananiah: because he broke the wooden yoke, God will replace it with a yoke of iron. God prophesies that Hananiah will die within the year, which occurs two months later, confirming Jeremiah's authority.
