Jeremiah 34

Jeremiah 34

Jeremiah delivers a message of doom to King Zedekiah during the siege of Jerusalem. Jeremiah prophesies that Zedekiah will be captured and taken to Babylon, but he will die in peace and receive the burial rites of his fathers. God then condemns the people for their hypocrisy regarding the release of slaves. When the Babylonian army temporarily withdrew, the wealthy citizens re-enslaved the servants they had just freed. God declares that because they profaned His name, He will release them—to the sword, famine, and pestilence.
