Jeremiah 35

Jeremiah 35

This chapter provides a powerful contrast between the disobedient people of Judah and the absolute obedience of the Rechabites. God commands Jeremiah to test the Rechabites by offering them wine. The Rechabites refuse, explaining that their ancestor, Jonadab, commanded them never to drink wine, live in houses, or sow fields. God praises the Rechabites for their faithful obedience to a man’s command. God contrasts this faithfulness with Judah’s disobedience to God’s eternal commands, promising perpetual blessing to the Rechabites.
