Jeremiah 37

Jeremiah 37

After the Babylonians briefly retreat, King Zedekiah sends a messenger to Jeremiah, asking him to pray to the Lord. Jeremiah prophesies that the Babylonians will return and burn the city with fire. Jeremiah attempts to leave Jerusalem to go to his hometown, but he is seized by a guard who falsely accuses him of deserting to the Babylonians. Jeremiah is severely beaten and imprisoned in the house of Jonathan the scribe. King Zedekiah secretly seeks Jeremiah’s counsel but refuses to follow his advice to surrender.
