Jeremiah 38

Jeremiah 38

Jeremiah's persistent prophecies of doom cause the officials to demand his death, arguing he is weakening the hands of the soldiers. Jeremiah is thrown into a cistern (a waterless pit) where he sinks in the mud and is left to die. Ebed-Melech, an Ethiopian eunuch, bravely pleads with the King for Jeremiah's life. Zedekiah allows Ebed-Melech to pull Jeremiah out of the cistern. Jeremiah urges the king to surrender to the Babylonians, promising his life will be spared, but Zedekiah refuses, sealing his fate.
