Jeremiah 39

Jeremiah 39

This chapter records the fall of Jerusalem to the Babylonians after an 18-month siege. King Zedekiah and his soldiers flee but are captured on the plains of Jericho. Zedekiah is taken to Nebuchadnezzar, who forces him to watch his sons executed before having his eyes put out. The Babylonians burn the Temple and the king's house and carry the remaining population into exile. The chapter concludes with a promise of deliverance and safety for the courageous eunuch Ebed-Melech.
