Jeremiah 42

Jeremiah 42

After the murder of Gedaliah, the remaining Jewish people, led by Johanan, approach Jeremiah and beg him to pray to the Lord for guidance. They swear they will obey the exact command God gives them. They are afraid of Babylon and want to flee to Egypt. After ten days, God answers, warning them not to go to Egypt, promising that if they stay in Judah, God will rebuild them and save them from the King of Babylon. God warns that if they go to Egypt, they will die there by the sword and famine.
